Remuneration

The monthly gross salary corresponds to level 33 of the Portuguese Single Remuneration Table (Tabela Remuneratória Única), approved by Ordinance no. 1553-C/2008 of 31 December, amounting to €2,408.11, plus: meal allowance; Holiday and Christmas allowances; Work accident insurance in accordance with applicable legislation.

The Iscte Conhecimento e Inovação – Centro de Valorização e Transferência de Tecnologias, through its Research Unit DINÂMIA’CET-Iscte – Centre for Socioeconomic and Territorial Studies, hereby announces the opening of an expression of interest for the recruitment of an Entry-Level Researcher, to perform duties within the project “HOUSING FREEDOM – Housing as a Tool for Freedom: A Future Away from Incarceration”, a European Research Council Starting Grant (Ref. 101219668), running from February 2026 to January 2031.

Selection Methods

Selection will be based on curriculum evaluation and, if deemed necessary, interviews or other appropriate assessment methods. This announcement does not constitute the opening of a formal recruitment competition and does not confer any right to employment resulting from the comparative evaluation of applications.

Functions to Perform

  • The researcher will work as part of a team, in close coordination with the Principal Investigator and under her direct supervision, carrying out research tasks included in the approved work plan. The duties to be performed are described in greater detail in the Annex to this expression of interest.
General Requirements

  • PhD degree in one of the following fields: Anthropology; Criminology; Sociology; Human Geography; Public Policy; Justice Studies; or related disciplines. Proficiency in Portuguese and English (C1 or C2 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages). Additional proficiency (C1 or C2) in Norwegian or French will be considered an asset.
Special Requirements

  • Proven research experience in areas directly related to the project, namely: (i) research with vulnerable or marginalized populations in contexts of incarceration; (ii) experience in ethnography, including in-depth interviews and life histories; (iii) In-depth knowledge of theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence concerning post-incarceration reintegration processes. The following will also be considered factors of merit/preference for this position: experience in participatory research (PAR); knowledge of visual and/or digital methods (photovoice, digital diaries, storytelling); experience in academic writing and publication in English and Portuguese; experience of academic work in a supranational context; experience of participation in research projects, individually and in teams; strong organizational skills, methodological rigor and autonomy in the fulfilment of tasks; ability to work collaboratively and commitment to the pursuit of the project’s common objectives; sense of responsibility, creativity, intellectual curiosity and academic integrity.
